GCCF Closing Keynote, Right Time Risk Taking

Dr. Laura Boyd, Director of Public Policy, Family Focused Treatment Association will serve as keynote for the 2018 GCCF closing session,  Right Time Risk Taking scheduled October 19. Public Law 115-123, the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA), was signed by President Donald Trump on Feb. 9, 2018. The FFPSA will change child welfare and foster care “as we know it”. Prevention and intervention services to bolster biological families, kinship families, adoptive families, and foster families are generously encouraged, if not required in the law. The overarching goals of FFPSA are to keep families together and to provide quality and consistent care for those at risk of foster care or who cannot remain in their homes.

This presentation will address the major changes dictated by FFPSA and will provide opportunity to examine details and nuances known at this time. Ample Q&A with attendees is anticipated. Attendees will better understand who are the intended recipients of the FFPSA services by categorical definition and what services are covered; have a working knowledge of the various dimensions of FFPSA and its implications on various practice settings; and learn where and how Treatment Family Care supports the goals of FFPSA. Attendees from the private child welfare sector, the public child serving sector, and those engaged with the juvenile courts will learn about new areas of collaboration as they work together toward implementation of FFPSA.
